Christian Aid
COVAW with Support from Christian Aid Kenya implemented a two-year project in 2022 and 2022 titled Enhancing Access to Comprehensive Sexual and Gender-Based Services during the COVID-19 period. The project was implemented in six informal settlements including Kiandutu and Ruiru in Kiambu County and Mathare, Kawangware, Korogocho and Mwiki in Nairobi County.
Below are some of the key achievements
- Enhanced awareness and advocacy among members of the community, duty bearers, and other stakeholders on the rights of women and girls including those with disabilities on prevention and response to SGBV during the COVID-19 period. Over 1 million people were reached through community dialogue forums and radio talk shows.
- Increased number of women and girls successfully referred/linked to care at health facilities to receive SRH services. COVAW received about 76 cases of SGBV. 20 of them received psychosocial support services from qualified counsellors.
- COVAW developed a simplified Sexual and Gender-Based Violence reporting procedure. The guide has information on the steps to follow after an SGBV incidence. The procedure also has things not to do after an SGBV incidence. COVAW has been using the simplified guide during community dialogues forums on SGBV reporting and referral mechanisms. COVAW has attached the soft copy of the simplified guide.
- 100 households supported under a cash transfer initiative.
