UAF- Building a Safer Muselele

Project Overview

COVAW, in partnership with Urgent Action Fund-Africa (UAF-Africa), is implementing a community-driven project to address sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) in Muselele, Kitui County. The project prioritizes community-driven approaches, integrating local cultural contexts with practical solutions to tackle the root causes of violence and to support survivors of SGBV. Through training, advocacy, and collaboration with local leadership and justice actors, the project seeks to empower women and girls to mitigate, prevent and respond to SGBV cases effectively within Muselele.

Key Partners and Stakeholders

Stakeholders: Ministry of Education, Kitui County Government, community leaders, police, healthcare providers, and local Civil Society Organizations (CSOs).

Project Objectives
  • To reduce the incidence of SGBV in Muselele through community-led initiatives, awareness campaigns, and capacity building of key stakeholders.
  • To improve the response to SGBV cases by strengthening referral pathways, providing legal aid, and empowering survivors.
  • To empower women and girls in Muselele to recognize and challenge harmful gender norms and to advocate for their rights.
