Busia Gang Rape Allowed to Proceed to Court Without Further Delay

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) jointly with the Coalition on Violence Against Women (COVAW) and FIDA-Kenya releases this joint press statement to update the public on progress in the Busia sexual violence matter known as the ‘Justice For Liz’ case.On Monday 3rd February 2014, the aforementioned parties met to discuss the progress of this matter. After constructive discussions it was agreed that: the case proceeds to court without further delay, the medical evidence supports charges of sexual violence, COVAW will arrange for a report from Liz’s psycho social support and will continue to ensure that Liz and her family receive psycho social support as appropriate, COVAW will act as intermediaries for Liz. he The ODPP has taken up the issue of protection for Liz and her family with the Witness Protection Agency (WIPA) and the Police.
